WHY A COMMUNION SERVICE?
4 reasons -
Firstly - because the Communion/Eucharist/Mass
has been a central part of the Christian tradition since the very
beginning. In meeting together, remembering Jesus' death, and
sharing the bread and wine we are doing something which
Christians have done and have found helpful for 2000 years. We
are also doing something which Jesus told his followers to do!
Secondly - because in many Anglican churches the
communion service is the main weekly service, however many young
people find it difficult to feel a part of what is going on.
Thirdly - the liturgy is full of drama and it
has enormous potential for creative things to be done; much more
than any other service. In addition to the words there is
movement, touch, taste, and a dramatic presentation; all this
gives enormous possibilities.
Forthly - the service is an illustration of the
Christian faith; the centrality of Christ's death, receiving
forgiveness, offering ourselves and being changed, sharing his
risen life, being sent out in to the world .... Many people have
found within the communion service things that have helped them
at different times in their discipleship.
