WHAT IS IT LIKE?

It has proved very
difficult to find a title which adequately conveys what the
service is like. The title 'Rock Communion' was chosen because it
is a modern sung setting of the words of the communion service
accompanied by a typical rock band line up. However, the service
tries to bring together a very wide range of music; hymns,
contemporary music, unaccompanied singing and silence. It is
aimed primarily at people with some church connection and is not
trying to be 'alternative worship'.
The 'framework' around which the service is built is the Church
of England Rite A Communion service taken from the Alternative
Service Book. The reason for sticking to this material is that it
means that the service is 'authorised'; ie no laws are broken by
using material that hasn't been authorised.
Much of the service, the prayers and responses, are sung. This is
one way of giving new meaning to familiar words. Images are also
used to accompany the words and the singing as a further attempt
to engage people in what is being said.
