WHAT IS THE ROCK COMMUNION?

A BIT OF BACKGROUND

The history of this particular service is that a large part of the communion setting was written by Daniel Merceron when he was at theological college. In 1990 he moved to the diocese of Bath and wells to be a curate at St John's Clevedon. A like minded person arrived in the diocese at the same time, Richard Snow, and over the next 12 months they built up a group of musicians and worked together to produce a complete service. The service was first tried in Clevedon and then in other churches, mainly in the diocese of Bath and Wells, including Wells Cathedral in 1992. It has now travelled as far as Paris. The service is continually evolving although the aim still remains to present the familiar liturgy in a creative way.

Both Dan Merceron and Richard Snow have now both moved on to pastures new, but the Rock Communion has continued to evolve, whilst still maintaining the original concept and much of the original material.
